Mikihito Setoh, the new champion
The boxing match to decide a Japan-champion of super bantamweight was held on April 9th. The new Japan-champion was born, Mikihito Setoh. I went to see the boxing match and was so happy to witness him become a new champion as it was his longstanding dream.
He is my friend's brother and I've been seeing his matches for a past few years. He is really strong boxer with no-guard style and very fast jab, and he'd always stayed at the very top but missing chances to challenge the championship for a past few years. So, this match was the first challenge and everyone on his side was very excited to see the game.
To make the long story short as I am not really familiar with the rules and systems, he became a new champion!
We were all so happy. Cannot describe in other words. It was such a great moment and I am just so happy to be there together with everyone to celebrate.
Now he is the Japan-champion. He would have to challenge more and more from now on, but I believe that he will be stronger.
Congratulations and thank you very much for letting me share.
His guts gave me courage :)

Spring Display 2011 @ Cafe Fuu
New display for Spring is up now at the CAFE FUU, Tokyo.
This time, I wanted to show full of colors and flowers.
Since the disaster that occurred last month, things are getting back to almost normal in Tokyo though there are so many people still suffering and new issues are constantly pop up.
Though I live normal days, something related to the disaster is always somewhere in my mind and, of course, we should not forget what happened so that we can learn from the experience. Also, I do what I can, like saving electricity, donations...etc.. as it will take time to make things back to normal.
While keeping those things in mind, I wanted to show something cheers people up with full of colors which hopefully make people smile.

Visiting bronze casting foundry
I have visited bronze casting foundry, ArteCast, in Kameari, Tokyo.
It was my first time to visit the casting foundry in Japan, so I was very very excited.
The foundry is run by the owner, Mr. Shimizu. Usually he works alone, but another staff member was there working on the cray model when I visited. The studio was divided into 3 section, modeling area, foundry area, and finishing area. Here and there, I saw many familiar tools and equipments laying around everywhere in the studio. Also, I was happy that their casting method was almost the same as the method I learned in the college.
After toured around the studio, I had fun talking to Mr. Shimizu. We talked many things about bronze casting and its future possibilities.
One of the biggest reasons visited this particular foundry is because I had an impression that we share the same thoughts about bronze casting, which is to make bronze as something more close to people.
I always had this impression that people (especially in Japan) may think that bronze (statue) is something "special", "unfamiliar", "super expensive", and etc, etc... In fact, with no particular reason, it can be very expensive to ask for bronze casting at the commercial foundries in Japan. Compared to the United states, I think it is unreasonably expensive. And that is one of the reasons that bronze sculpture is very expensive.
At the ArteCast, Mr Shimizu wants bronze to be familiar to many people, he tries to suppress the cost by negotiating with the artists who want to cast. By helping some stages, I can hold down the cost he says. This offer is very helpful for me as I can do most of the stages.
I like using other metal materials, such as brass, copper, and silver, but I always wanted to mix with bronze casting, too.. I want people to think bronze is familiar material and not so special.
By visiting ArteCast, I felt that I can believe in the future possibilities for my life with metal and bronze.
It was really wonderful and meaningful visit. I am very much excited now :)

新メニュー試食会 で 思う事/ challenge is being creative :)
I was invited to the food tasting party at my friend's cafe, CAFE FUU, where I do shop display and show my works. All the staff members came up with variety of food menu to make them as new menu. Though I was just to eat and drink, it was really fun to eat and discuss about the food.
There are so many aspects to consider when they come up with new menu, such as cost performance, how long it takes to make, future possibilities, customer's needs.. etc. etc... It was interesting to listen all the comments and background how each staff came up with his/her menu. They have to not only be creative but thoughtful as well.
I had fun time eating and drinking, and this tasting party made me think about how to balance up the creativity and commercializing in any fields.
For me, making things is fun. I create things because it's fun. This is the most important motivation for me. However, if I want to make money out of what I do, I should consider many aspects, the cost performance, what will please people, where to display.. etc. etc. If I think too much about other people's feedback, I may lose my "originality", and at the end I may lose confidence on what I make (scary!). I have had confronted this issue time to time.. and sometime it is not easy for me to balance up.
Well, I think I have to live along with this issue for rest of my life with metal |o|
I just don't wanna lose the joy of creating.
