長嶋のぼる展 visited a solo show, Noboru Nagashima

週末、梅雨入りして雨予報だった日曜は晴れてとても気持ちの良い一日になりました。

贅沢にも昼過ぎに起き、掃除をしながらのんびり過ごし、天気の良い中ふらりと出かけてきました。

まずは銀座のギャラリーで開催初日を迎えた、工房のボス／長嶋のぼるさんの個展へ。

長嶋さんは主に鋳金でモノづくりをしています。鋳金は溶かした金属を型に流し入れて成型する手法で、

以前ブログにも書いたブロンズ像も同じ鋳金技術で作ります。

鋳金以外にも、これまで長年金属と働いてきた経験からくる知識は素晴らしく、いつもわからないことがあると相談させていただいてます。

それと同じくらいダメ出しもされますが。。

今回長嶋さんは「はたらくどうぶつ」という名で展示をしています。その名の通り、長嶋さんの作品はほとんどが動物をモチーフにしたものです。

デフォルメされた動物たちが、椅子、本立て、時計、ペン立て、文鎮、ランプ、ハンガー、ツボ押し、靴べらなど、それぞれの役割をもって「はたらいて」いるのです。

長嶋さんはご自身の作品以外でもモニュメントなどの制作を手掛けてきていて、川口駅の駅舎にある「川口駅」という看板は、長嶋さんが制作したものです。（鋳物の街、川口にちなんで鋳物で制作されています。）

その他、今回の展示作品には、現在高校の美術教科書に使われている作品もあったりして、なかなかに活躍されている作家さんです。

20年ぶりに開いたという個展は、初日、お天気にも恵まれてたくさんの人がお祝いに駆けつけていて、盛況でした。

この1か月間は本当に集中してずううっと制作活動を行っていた長嶋さん。

疲れが常にピークで目がうつろになってる時もありました。

個展に限らず、展示会の前は、常に「これでいい」と思う瞬間が来ない気がします（私はそう。。）。もっとできるのではとか、終着点を決めることができなかったりして。　

長嶋さんは私とは比較にならないくらいの経験と知識を持っているからそんなことはないかもですが。。

個展はあと数日ですが、個展終わったらこれからがまた勝負です！　

大大大先輩ですが、これを区切りにさらにモノづくりにまい進していきましょー！。

展示会の後はまた別の「渋谷地下水脈」というイベントのオープニングに行って来たのですが、それはまた今度。

Despite the announcement of weather forecast that we are now in the rainy season, we have been enjoying the beautiful sunny days these days.

Last Sunday was such a beautiful day to go out, so I went to visit a solo exhibition of my studio-mate, Noboru Nagashima.

He is one of the founders of our Studio, Ren, and he is a great artist and an expert of metal works involved in the craft making industry for about past 40 years.

His specialty is casting, and also he is a professional mold maker.

I specialize in casting, too, so he has been great help for me whenever I have questions.

The solo show, which was held for the first time in 2 decades, was entitled “working animals”.

Nagashima’s art works are mostly animal figure. As the title indicates, the deformed/designed animals are “working” as bookend, lack, chair, box, paper weight, and so on.

All the animals were nicely placed.

The day I visited was the first day and it seems it was prosperous with many people visiting.

Not only the small craft for daily use, he works on monumental works as well, such as a relief for train station where tremendous amount of people walk by every day. One of his works is also published in the public art text book for high school.

This past month, I was watching him trying to make pieces as much works as possible for the show.

Toward the end, especially, he looked exhausted and tired of making things…. So I tried to encourage him that he can do it.

Thought the show last only for one week, he should be busy working on his works more after the show.

I believe that the show will end with great success which would bring him more motivation afterwards.

After the show, I visited another interesting event which is about the abandoned river in Shibuya, the biggest downtowns in Tokyo.
