Summer Display @ CAFE FUU

Just renewed the Shop Display of CAFE FUU where I exhibit my art works time to time.   It is a summer display and I was supposed to change it earlier, but again, I was a bit late to do so...
I had lots of fun selecting summer pictures from my album.  Some of them were from over 10 years ago when I still used the regular camera with actual film.
By looking at the pictures, it really made me feel that I wanna go on the trip again..

I hope people enjoy the display and hope they would feel that they wanna enjoy their summer, too :)

2/Bucketful of Potatoes!

This weekend, I dug out a lot of potatoes as they were ready to come out.
It was first time to do it myself, so I was really excited to see how it is growing in the soil.
As I dug, I kept finding just regular potatoes you see in the store more and more.
I started to have so much fun finding them, so I ended up getting half of what we have in the garden.  I think there were more than 50 potatoes, mix of big and small ones. I got a bucketful of potatoes!!
All the potatoes look healthy and sound :)
I am ready to get more of potatoes and some other veges, like eggplant and peppers this coming weekend.

必要なのは雨と太陽 / all you need is a bit of rain and sunshine

I've been taking care of the vegetables in the garden near my parent's house.
My mom is usually the one to take care of, but I am helping her this year under her supervision.
I planted green pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, egg plant and some more about a month ago, and now they are growing a lot.
We did not have enough sunshine for a while, but it has been nice and shiny (and extremely hot), so I am expecting they will be a lot bigger than last weekend..
Last weekend, I picked a very first green pepper and cooked for myself.  Though the taste is nothing special, I felt special to eat it first.
Other vegetables are almost ready, too. .. hopefully this weekend...

I can only go on the weekends, so I feel a little anxious that they may have grown too big by now....  well, as long as they are standing straight, that should be OK.
This weekend,, the potatoes which were planted a long time ago should be ready to be dug.
I guess I will be happy busy this weekend :)

Sora Shokudo forever!

For many reasons, my friends' cafe, Sora Shokudo, had to close down last weekend.  It has been only 7months  since its open in last November... It was sad to hear the sudden news.

It was an open-air truck cafe located just by the really big park, Inokashira Park in Kichijoji.  Main menu was Jamaican Jerk Chicken Sandwich, and it was really fun place to hang out.  No walls, but just tent, tables and benches.  The atmosphere was just perfect to have good time.
It was really a hand-made cafe. It started out only with a yellow truck, then build a wooden deck, tent, and more to make it comfortable.
It was covered by the plastic curtains to keep away from the cold air during the winter.   They made many arrangements time to time to make things better.
Because I've been seeing their challenges and improvements, it is sad to see them leave so fast..   I wanted enjoy summer there.  It would been great to have a glass of beer and jerk chicken sandwiches under the sun...  It is pity, really.

There, I met many fun people, too.
On the last day,  all the regulars and friends partied and enjoyed the last hang out at the cafe.
The party went on for long time, and I am sure everyone had great time drinking, eating, talking, singing, laughing and sharing.

Again, it is pity, but I really want to say thank you for all the power I got and meeting with new people there.
I really wish their good luck on the next step :)

- Peace out.

地元 / old memories

"hey"
The girl stopped me on the hallway at the hospital of my hometown, Chiba.
As I stopped and looked her, she goes "hey, did you graduate from XXX(Jr high name) ? We were in the same grade! "   humm...  I could not remember her at all, but she kept going "We were even in the same Volleyball team! You haven't changed!"
Even then, I could not recall her at all.
I was shocked for not remembering her though we were in the same club team...
I would guess that she was more shocked than I was.....
I felt really bad, but I could not bullshit with her, so I told her that I don't remember.
She was nice enough to say that we had many students in our grade (400 students) to remember each student, so I told her that I would check our year book and left.
I checked the year book at home, and now I remember her.
Though it's been over 20 years, I thought I had good memory with many things....

5,6 years ago, I met this guy at the random party.  When he saw me, he went "Did you graduate from XXX (jr. high name)?  You must be a year older than I am."   The party was held in Tokyo and had no relation with our home town, Chiba.   He said he recognized my face from the old times.  As we talked, I found out that our houses are really close and we had some mutual friends when we were kids.   Even then, I could not remember any contacts with him.   I felt bad then.

Do I look really the same as 20 years ago...??

It's been a long long time since I left my home town at age 20, and now I live in Tokyo close to 10 years.
I only see my mom whenever I go back to Chiba.  Most of my close friends from home town live in Tokyo as well, so I never see them in the home town.  Or, I am not close to any of the friends from Jr. High school.

Well,, that might be the excuse for not having memory from Jr. high...   Well... I'm sorry anyway...

Peaceful days

It has been one week since the show is finished on last Wed.
I was not doing much for this one week, but going to some shows and movie.

On Sun. May 8th, I went to the exhibition of Anne Vasko and Toshiyuki Fukuda http://to-fukuda.com/exhibition_info.html  Vasko is a Finnish illustrator and Fukuda is also well known illustrator in Japan.  Their works are covered with full of colors which make you happy and smile.   It was really nice show.
Before going to the show, I met up with a friend and had a glass of beer under the sunshine :)  This probably helped me feel happier, too :D

On Tue. May 10th.   In the morning, I went to see a movie "Never let me go".   This British movie is based on the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro.  I was waiting for long time to see this movie, so I was really happy to make it finally.  I liked the movie.   No exciting moment but you can feel the quiet but strong emotion/tension throughout the movie.   I don't go too far, but it was really beautiful movie.  Worth to see in the theater.
In the afternoon, I went to see the exhibition of a well known shadow picture artist, Seiji Fujishiro. (http://www.seiji-fujishiro.com/)
It was one of my best shows I've ever been.   He is now 87 years old and has been around about 60years as a shadow picture artist.   His works make you happy and smile.  By looking at the pictures, you can feel his love toward everything around him.  I wish I could stay there looking at his works forever.
He also had animals on display (?) along with the pictures.  One of my favorites was a bird welcoming guests at the entrance :)
Again, I am glad I did not miss the chance to see the show.   Thanks to the friend who told me about the show.
