winter display @ CAFE FUU

これまで、イベントや作品の展示でお世話になっている、茗荷谷にあるCAFE FUU さん (http://www.cafe-fuu.com/)では、昨年から店内の一部でディスプレイもさせていただいています。
季節ごとのテーマでディスプレイをしているのですが。。。先日冬仕様に変えて来ましたー。
I have finally changed the store display at CAFE FUU (http://www.cafe-fuu.com/), Tokyo.  I do this display seasonally, so this time is for winter.  

寒い寒い日が続くので、、私の中ではまだまだ冬なのですが．．どうやら来週あたりから少し春めいてくるみたい。
なんだか遅め遅めで申し訳ないので．．．次の春用ディスプレイは早目に先取りで変えるようにします。。
It has been really cold in Tokyo these days, so I still feel like I am in the middle of winter, but I should change the display ahead of the seasons.  
For the Spring display... I try to change it in advance lol

エジソンの気持ち ／ now I know how Edison felt...

先日教えていただいた電気回路の配線方法や仕組みをもとに。。。
不要になった携帯電話の充電器を改造して電気接続ケーブルと簡単な基盤を作りました。
そしたら．．．つきました、LED電球！

コード切ってハンダでつけて、FRP板切って削って基盤作って。。。。
点かなくて自分で工夫してみたり。
自分がこんな事出来るなんて。。。電気が点いた瞬間はとっても感動しました。
エジソンも同じ気持ちだったかな．．．なんてふと思う。
初歩の初歩の初歩だけど、これで次にすすめる。

Based on what I learned from the last lecture, I made a very simple electrical circuit using AC adapter for the old mobile phone which I don't use anymore and some other materials...
Cutting up the electric code and soldering with the clips, making a simple circuit by cutting and soldering the FRP panel.... etc. etc.  It was first time ever for me to make this kind of things myself.
Finally, the LED bulb was on!

I was so happy to see the light was on, and I wondered how Edison felt when he made the light on.....
I was glad that no one was around.  If there were, I would have forced them to share how happy I am...

What I made is very very simple as someone may have learned in high school, but it was a big step for me.   Now I learned new thing so that I can go to the next step. 

オームの法則 Ohm's law

オームの法則について勉強するように。という宿題をいただいたので。。。勉強しています。
Now I have a mission to study about  "Ohm's law"... 

オームの法則とは、かける電圧・抵抗の値・流れる電流の大きさの関係を表したもの。
今さらだけど。。方式はこんな感じ。 
E(V) = R(Ω) x I(A)
。。。でもよくわからない。小学校で習ったのか、中学で習ったのかさえ覚えていないほど、ここ何十年も全く考えていなかった分野。
Ohm's law is to describe the relationship of "electrical voltage", "value of resistance", and "electrical current"... 
I can just look up the dictionary to see the meaning, but I do not know exactly what it is used for.. I don't even remember if I learnt in elementary school or the junior high...

なぜオームの法則を勉強するはめになったのかというと、今作っている照明器具には、ホームセンターなどでセット販売されている既製品だとサイズが合わず、それなら同様の仕組みを自分で作りたいと思ったから。
電気回路の組み立てや、LEDを利用するにあたり、知り合いの元／電気技師の方で、今はこの技術／知識を利用してすばらしい美術工芸品を次々と作成されている、通称（愛情を込めて）「LEDおじさん」に講義をしていただいた。３時間にもわたり、私の小学生レベルの質問（電池の端と端を持つとしびれるのか。。。的な）にも根気よくおつきあいくださり、LEDの仕組みから、特性、特性を生かす事で出来る事、応用。などなど、教えてくださった。
そして、次回さらに技術的な部分の講義にすすむにあたり、必要な知識として、「オームの法則」を勉強しておくように。という宿題をいただいた。
ので、付け焼き刃とはいえ、勉強中。私には、子供用の教材が一番分かりやすい。

電気回路を作るのが本来の目的ではなく、それはあくまでも作りたいものの一部なのだから、餅は餅屋、専門の方にその部分だけでも制作をお願いするというのも手なのだと思う。
でも、基本の仕組みや作り方を知っていれば、将来応用ができる。
複雑な事まで知る必要は無いけれど、自分が扱っているものの正体くらいは知っておきたい。
引き出しはいくつあっても無駄じゃない。

あと１週間、オームの法則、私の脳がまだちゃんと飲み込めますように。

Why am I studying about Ohm's law after ages is related to what I am trying to make now.  
I am trying to make lighting apparatus now, but I cannot find the necessary parts at the normal DIY store like HomeDepot.  Therefore, I decided to assemble my own parts using the separate parts obtained at the speciality store. 
In order to make my own electrical circuit and also to use LED, I received great help from this person who used to work as an excellent electrical engineer, and now making beautiful art works utilizing his knowledge and technique after his retirement.  
During his lecture,  he was very patient with me who ask him super low level qustions, such as Do I get electrical shock if I touch the both ends of the battery???? - type of question... 
He taught me the basics of electrical devices and LED, like how it works and how I can utilize/apply it.  


After 3 hours of lecture, he gave me a home work.. which is to study about the Ohm's law until next lecture.   He told me that I should know about it in order to understand the next step.  
So now I am cramming for it.  The text books for kids are the best. 


I am not going to be an electrical engineer or a lamp maker, so I can ask someone to make the parts for me.   This is one idea, I think.  
However, I can use my knowledge for the future if I learn the basics. 
I do not need to know the complicated mechanism, but I want to know at least what I am handling and using. 
Knowledge gives me more options for the future.  


I have one more week to go.  
I hope my brain is capable enough to learn more staff...

新工房 / new studio

昨年末に古い工房を出て、新しい工房に引っ越ししました。
新しい工房はこんな感じ。

前回までの古い古い雑居ビルを出て、今回はビルを１棟借りしました！
前の工房の退去申し渡しから１年、いろいろ大変だったけど、みんなで協力して探し出し、ようやく借りた場所です。
元はバイク屋さんだったのですが（床に名残が。。。）１階から３階を工房として利用、私は１フロアの半分をもう一人の人とシェアしてます。
前は川沿いの自然に囲まれた場所だったけど、今回は大きな通り沿い。
引っ越しから１ヶ月、一緒に工房を借りている仲間たちもそれぞれの居場所をより良く改造しながら、作業を始めています。
少しずつ、さらに良い環境にして、お金も人も呼べる空間になったらいいなあ。
Six of us rented "one building" this time.  It was hard to find one we all agree on, but finally we did.
It lookes very new compared to the old studio (though I liked it in many ways).  It used to be a motorcycle shop as you can still see on the floor tiles.   We use 3 floors as art studio and I use one of the floors sharing with another person.
I still misses the location of the old studio as it was surrounded by nature, where the new studio is located right on the busy street.  
It has been a month since we moved to this new location.
Almost everyone is back to work arranging their work stations.
I hope this place will give us power again to be more creative :)

Starting new

２０１１年スタート。

Year 2011 just started.  I wish all my loved ones will have a wonderful year with lots of smiles :)

昨年は長年おつとめした仕事をやめたり、旅行にもたくさん行ったり、動きのある１年をすごしました。今年はどんな一年にするかな。まずは出来る事からこつこつと。
新／工房の引っ越しも落ち着いて、ようやく道具やら設備もほぼそろったので、後はどんどんモノ作り。
モノ作り以外は。。去年後半、行きたかった山登りが３回連続で中止になったり、靴が壊れたりしたので。。。まず春になったら山登りに行きたい。

後は．．．いろいろ考える事が多い。。のに、考えてない。。気がする。
よくわからないけど。。。　　手を動かそう。

今年もどうぞよろしくお願いします。

I had some changes last year.  I have quite the job where I worked for over 8 years and went on the trips many places overseas as well as within Japan. 
I don't know what's waiting for me this year, but I just keep going forward little by little. 
The moving to the new art studio is almost completed.  Most of the necessary tools and equipments have been installed, so now I just keep making more staff. 
Besides working on the metals... I wanna go to a hiking when the spring comes since I failed to go on the hikings three times in a row last year (I do not what this means, thought....) as the plans got cancelled and also I broke my shoes just before start walking..   
So, I believe that this year would be a good year for me to go to mountains. 

Other things...
I feel like I have things I should be thinking of.... but I feel that I am not focusing on those...   I don't know... hummm..
